Identity Loss and Epiphany

The ether world both giveth and taketh away.

This morning when I was firing up my laptop, my attention wandered and created an “Oh noooooooo!” moment. I’ve been dodging Firefox’s nonstop prompts to download the next version. If there’s any way I can avoid change in my electronic efforts, I’ll do it. Except my cursor wandered over the yes prompt instead of the decline one.

So now I can’t stay logged in to my own blog; the sign-in button does nothing. If I want to reply to any of you nice folks without being anonymous, each time I have to go to a “select profile” box and click on “Google account”. Annoying. Who knows what other horrors are awaiting me.

On the plus side, thank you Google for being an unending source of trivia.

We were watching a new mystery on Masterpiece last night, Sherwood, which I highly recommend – how can you go wrong with the fabulous Lesley Manville of ‘Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris’? (Also, look for the dark comedy ‘Mum”)

(To save you from looking him up, too)

In a crowd scene I spotted a familiar face. He only appeared for the blink of an eye, and wasn’t seen again for the rest of the episode. But I knew this was someone who couldn’t possibly be playing an extra. I did remember him from ‘The Full Monty.’ So, I looked that up. Aha! Mark Addy! He’s been in any number of things, one of whom I’d forgotten- ‘Game of Thrones’, as King Robert Baratheon. Reading on, I learned that Addy won’t show up until the last two episodes of the ‘Sherwood’ series.

Amazing all the little questions we used to leave unanswered unless they could be found in that big dusty set of encyclopedias on the living room bookshelf.

  1. One of my favorite uses of Google is to get the meanings of current slang. Very often it's quite nsfw, so it's just as well to know that in case I find myself saying something hmmm.

  2. That is the second time this week that Mrs Harris goes to Paris has been mentioned on a blog I read. I loved the book but didn't even know that a movie had been made.

  4. I am always looking for something to watch on TV that I would like. I'll take a look at Sherwood, since it sounds interesting. :-)

  5. Same as EC, and thanks for the recommendation.

  6. I don't see why a new version of Firefox should stop you accessing your blog without signing in. I remember when I used Firefox, it did upgrades, but I don't know if I ever downloaded a "new version". The laptop I have now came with Microsoft Edge and I've stuck with that.
    I love "The Full Monty"

  7. I agree, but that was the only variable.

  8. Sherwood was excellent, and it was like old home week with all of those so familiar characters. Apparently there is going to be a second season. Yay!

  9. Thanks, good to know. BTW, Addy was also in a one season show, White House Farm, another interesting mystery.

  10. I don't have much time for TV lately. And while I'm sure I've seen The Full Monty it was a long time ago and I would never have connected one of the characters to King Baratheon.

    1. Yup - just a tad different character: 30ish friendly working class guy to grizzled and growling king. He was almost unrecognizable in Thrones.

  11. I literally cannot watch a show these days without looking everyone up on IMDB to see what else they've been in.

    1. Exactly. And the British actors travel nonstop from one mystery series to another.

  12. I try to avoid new browers versions as they don't always carry over bookmarks and passwords, etc. which I have to do on my own and I am NOT a techie.

  13. It sound like you have fallen victim to the new Firefox cookie management system. I did a post about this in June. Give it a look and see if this is what has befallen you.
