Goodbye Old Friends

A glance at my bookcase triggered another clearing-out urge, but this is one I want to ignore. In spite of not having listened to them for years, I’ve hung on to my old audio tapes. I did discard quite a few, but these are my favorites. Why am I saving them? Unless an excavation in the basement reveals our son’s old boombox, I have no way to play them anymore. It’s going to be hard to put out Eric, Sting, James, and K.D. for the next trash pickup.

  1. I never listened to much music and lost my cassette player long, long ago. But I heard K.D. in concert and she's been a favorite ever since.

  2. Before you do that, you might want to check with your local Library. Many have equipment (and techies) to transfer music and pictures from old media to new, such as a thumb drive. You could bring your collection of favourites into the 21st century and enjoy them again :)

  4. He may get the last laugh. From what I've seen lately, vinyl's back, baby.

  5. I didn't have much of a cassette collection and it was easy enough to get rid of them since I had copied them to CD many years ago. We had a player that could play the cassette while recording it to CD. Now I have all the CDs which I rarely listen to with the only player being an external that plugs into the laptop.

  6. I used to "keep up with the times" and upgrade my media to the next upgrade. Family movies to CD, tapes too. I made copies for the family. But I quit when I realized only I was using them.

  7. It does make me nostalgic looking at all those cassette tapes! But I stream everything nowadays. (For the record, I still have a small stack of favorite CDs, even though I have nothing to play them on!)

    1. Well, as an FYI, last year I found online and bought a CD player for my other batch of oldies.

  8. At least they're not 8-track (from what I can tell).😇

  9. I still have our vinyl records but at least I do have a turntable to hook up to my computer so I can listen to them. Still have my CDs of music too and can play them on the computer. but my computer is old and I understand they don't put CD players/slots in them anymore. I asked my daughter how do you listen to music? It's all online mom, she says.
