Slumber Party

No idea what's coming.
I have a small out-patient event tomorrow and to simplify life (“Please arrive at 5:45 a.m.”!!!) we’re taking Mamie, the queen of separation anxiety, for an overnight visit to the dog sitter.

Like the characters and their animal sidekicks on HBO’s His Dark Materials, she’s basically my personal daemon, constitutionally unable to be separated from me and following me from room to room, task to task. When she’s all tucked into a really good nap on the couch, I find myself thinking twice before getting out of my chair.

Unfortunately, our dog is not kennel material. I’ve learned from experience that surrounded by other dogs and little human time, she’ll spend the entire time shaking.

She’ll be staying with Susan, an incredibly sweet lady for whom emoji hearts and exclamation points were invented.  When I text to arrange Mamie’s visit, she always replies with so many flowers, puppy faces, and smiles that it’s a struggle to make out her actual words. If we have to pry the Mamester from my side for a day, this is the next best thing.

  3. my little dog Minnie is the same way, follows me from room to room, always wants to go with if i'm getting in the car. she refers to be in my lap but laying next to me, always touching is second best. she is my constant companion.

  5. 5.45am is a ridiculous time to have to be anywhere. I'm glad you have a place to leave Mamie where she won't get traumatised.
