Nick of Time

Sorry about the cliffhanger. We’re fine. I realize that when I last wrote – too long ago – we were on the road from the northeast to the far south with an ice storm in between and tornadoes waiting for us in Florida. Through strategic timing, and a heavy foot (mine) that got us out of Virginia lickety split, we managed to dodge most of it, and entered the Sunshine State only after the winds had passed.

It seems timing is still to our advantage. Every weekend brings dire forecasts of snow and ice to the states above us, with talk of a Saturday blizzard in our home territory.

Still, I must be paying for my better climate here (not fabulous, but 55 degrees is practically tropical this time of year in Massachusetts) by entering an intense ecosystem of spam. This morning alone I’ve received calls from Grove OH, Laramie, WY, Hinsdale, MA and Quakertown, PA., followed by a fake call claiming my Amazon account had been compromised (no, it hadn’t). I have to admire their persistence – our place here is built with cinderblocks, forcing us to run to the porch or open a window if we want the person on the other line to hear us.

  1. Sigh on the spam. A pox on all of their houses. Glad you are safe.

  3. Ha! I'm glad you are safe and sound and not having had to endure any of the northern nasties. I laughed to hear about your spam calls. But really it's not funny, is it?

    1. I've become quite the expert at the "Block this caller" option on my phone.

  7. Spam phone calls? How bizarre. I must admit I never get that here, though Dave's had it happen a few times. Glad you got to the Sunshine State safely!
