Mamie

I wish now that we’d given Mamie a bigger chunk of that sugar cookie last night or a little more peanut butter around her pill this morning. Today’s trip to the groomer was more than her tired little heart could handle.

Goodbye to a quiet little dog who was her own person. Affectionate but never pushy. Never stole food – except for that one time I walked my book club to the door and left the cheese on the coffee table. Slept through the night with mostly silent dreams of chasing squirrels. A lover of routine – case in point when she would find My Guy in the basement and growl softly until he came up to watch evening TV with us. Queen of twirls and moonwalking backwards, who even with a heart condition would get caught up by the zoomies and run full circles around the backyard.

  1. Aww Marty, I am so very sorry. I so enjoyed when you shared her with us. Our pets get such a hold on our hearts but you have to know, she was as happy with you as you were with her. Rest in peace little girl.

  2. A lovely tribute to a lovely dog. What a great montage of a great life! It's hard, but she enjoyed her life to the end of it.

  3. I am so very sorry to read this. They wind their paws deep into our heart strings and take a piece of us with them when they leave. Heartfelt hugs.

  9. I am crying and as the tears fall, I think of all the joy that she brought into the world. I will miss her, too. She was loved by many who never laid eyes on her. I'm one of them.

  10. Thank you so much, DJan - and everyone else - for your kind thoughts.
It's amazing what a big gap such a small dog can leave.

  11. Oh no! I'm so sorry! I read this post with such disbelief -- at first I was like, "Is she saying what I think she's saying?" This must have been such a shock. I hope you're doing OK.

    1. Thanks, Steve. As a dog lover, I know you understand.
One day later, I'm still very sad and miss her more than I can say, but given her heart diagnosis last spring, it wasn't unexpected.

  12. So, so, so sorry. She looks much like my grandchildren's dog and we do love that imp. I am sorry it happened over the holiday season as well. She left behind many memories I am sure.
