Shrinking Violet or Hail Fellow, Well Met?

The responses to yesterday’s post set me to reflecting.

I recall a personality survey we all took at some touchy-feely teacher workshop years ago. One of the teachers I worked with closely came up an introvert, which was no surprise to him or me, while I fell more into the extrovert category. Maybe it’s a maturation thing (check Steve’s response yesterday), but even though I still look forward to parties and gatherings, after a couple of hours I weary of being “on” and my brain pings an, “Okay, that’s enough. Can we go now?”.

So today’s question is, Are bloggers more likely to be introverts or that of the extro variety?

  1. Blogging does seem to be made for the introvert. We can choose how much and when we interact and when/if we get overwhelmed we can step away without offense.
That said at least a few of the blogs I follow are owned by extroverts. In some cases extreme extroverts.

  2. My guess would be that bloggers would tend toward the introvert side.

  3. Bloggers are definitely introverts, if we weren't, we'd be out there mixing and mingling, right?

  4. Well, I am definitely an extrovert, but I sure do enjoy blogging and the incredible family of us that matters to me, and to my continued happiness. I wonder if most writers are introverts, too.

  5. A friend of mine once told me that the true definition of an introvert is not someone who is shy, but someone whose energy is recharged by being alone -- while extroverts are recharged by other people. I don't know how true that is, but I thought it was an interesting definition! I am basically introverted, I think, but you wouldn't necessarily know it if you met me. I hide it well. :)
