Unfamiliar faces

Standing in the front yard this morning while waiting for Mamie to do her business, I saw two odd little growths that must have popped up after last night's rain, like - well - mushrooms.

I've never thought of mushrooms as something that would flower.

  1. I get those same species. They are like little lace umbrellas.

  2. A woman who cleaned for us used to go through the yard and pick all the mushrooms that came up. After she quit, mom used to pick them. We wouldn't eat them, so mom put them in her omlettes.

    1. I guess I'm too citified for that not to sound scary.

  3. In that last photo it almost looks like a hibiscus. Are those the ones that turn to black mush on your fingers when you try to pull them out of your lawn? We get those.

    1. I think they just kind of vaporized or sank back into the earth. I didn't see them the next day.

  4. It does look rather floral, though I think technically mushrooms are considered "fruiting bodies" of fungus.
