Floridaland

Love the weather, despise the politics. At the end of February, WFLA-TV, out of Tampa, reported -

Sarasota nonprofit Embracing Our Differences aims to educate and inspire a better world through the power of the arts, according to its website. The organization is celebrating its 20th anniversary with an exhibition with the theme “Embracing Kindness.”

This year’s display features pieces from artists of all ages from around the globe.

The display began at a park in downtown Sarasota and was scheduled to travel to State College of Bradenton. The visit to the college was cancelled after SCF representatives found three artworks ‘inappropriate for kids.’

One of the three was by a 5th grader from India. The objection from the board stated, ‘. . . the definition of diversity and inclusion. We wanted it to be based on what we define diversity and inclusion.’

The 5th grader’s definition?

“diversity and inclusion are like the needle and thread that stitch together a harmonious fabric of peace for humankind.”

  2. I am trying to find what is "wrong" with the fifth grader's idea. This is turning into a terrible version of The Handmaid's Tale. What is WRONG with these people?

  3. "we want it to be based on what WE define diversity and inclusion." NOT inclusive at all! Not diversive either. Who the heck do they think they are? I REALLY like the fifth grader's idea of diversity and inclusion and hope that many more people around the world think like this too.
"and a little child shall lead them."
