We were relatively lucky here in Venice not to have sustained the kind of damage some towns suffered from Hurricane Ian. Still, even though we got here several months afterwards, signs of its visit are with us.
We’ve often thought our small condo complex’s main charm is its landscaping; the first building here went in years ago (although there was a long pause after with the 2008 housing crisis) so our plantings are well established. The storm took out over 140 of our trees – I didn’t even think we had 140 trees. But with the stumps removed and sod planted, you’d never know they were there.
If you were wondering what the inside of a palm tree looks like, here you are – all fibery and weird.
We have a few roof tarps, but no extensive damage. Our neighboring trailer complex wasn’t so lucky. So many months later, here’s where some of them still are:
But at least some of the magic remains.
The last photo amuses me since we are watching a British comedy series called The Detectorists, and there is some good humour in it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched it, but I know of that show.
ReplyDeleteNo, this fellow doesn't have a metal detector - he has a long-handled scooper/sifter sort of thing that looks brilliant to me. None of that stooping over every time you see a good sea shell.
So sad to see how much still needs to be repaired after that hurricane. I at first wondered if that fellow was hitting a golf ball into the sea! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty dramatic sunset, all dark and broody.
