Doe to Dough

Terrible picture, thanks to screen

I woke up this morning to a deer in the backyard munching my flowers and a hummingbird sipping at the feeder outside the window.

Today’s plan is a trip to the casino. We could go to the one 20 minutes away, but it’s small, with limited eating options and for me a trip anywhere is about food. So we’re off to Connecticut, where the gambling den I prefer is large enough to offer shopping and several restaurants. Oh, and who knows? Maybe we’ll win something. Years go by in between my casino trips.

In the ‘90s, I used to meet friends from the Boston area. They were serious gamblers and would often treat the group of us to lunch at one of the fancier restaurants on the points they’d earned. I did hit it big on one of these trips - $2,000 – but the taxes taken out were disheartening.

My Guy and I have our own strategy. We earmark an amount of money - $50 or less – as entertainment money, never expecting to see it again, and play with that until it’s gone. On our last trip in June (first time I’d been there in 15 years) I managed to keep $20 going for at least an hour.

For me, the focus is lunch.

  1. We are inundated with deer around here. They sure like certain flowers, especially roses. Good luck on your gambling entertainment. :-)

  2. That's a balanced approach to gambling. Especially the emphasis on lunch.

  3. If I had deer and hummingbirds to be seen you couldn't drag me away. I like your approach to gambling and hope that lunch was delicious.

  4. I found the deer, but not the hummingbird.

    1. The deer departed before the hummingbird arrived.

  6. If you're going to gamble, that's the way to do it! I've gambled a couple of times in my life but to be honest I found it pretty boring. I'd rather read a book.

    1. I'm still convinced that some day all those bells and whistles will go off for ME.
