Today was movie day, a somewhat counterintuitive thing to do in Florida when the sun is shining and the air is a perfect 77 degrees.
But you can’t sit on the beach every day, or even every other day when all your genes come from the UK. And we won’t bring up my many spots and blotches when we spent weekends at a Massachusetts lake. I regret the spots and blotches but not the time in the water with my kids. And yes, I see my dermatologist with great regularity and use sunscreen daily. My friend wanted to see the movie Dog with Channing Tatum. It will never be a contender for the Oscars, but I like dogs and Channing Tatum is pleasant to look at. Like everyone else, thanks to world events, I haven’t been to the cinema in years and even back when My Guy and I would go to our local theater in the evening, there were often only 5 or 6 people there besides us. Movie attendance had been dropping off long before the plague hit.
This theater was an experience. I’m used to creaky seats and sticky floors. This place had been recently renovated and oh, my. The lobby was lined with new rug, the hall with new faux-wood flooring. There was only one other couple miles away below us.
But the seats! Each had a swing away tray and multi-positioning reclining, not to mention heating for your tushy if the air-conditioning was a bit much. All for around $6.75.
And I was even able to enjoy a few weepy moments as dog and man struggled through their dilemmas.
From this angle, it almost looks like a living room with a big TV up on a couple of large boxes. The seating sounds wonderful although I don't see the need for reclining. With my vision, I need to be sitting up, although I do enjoy having my feet up. All that for only $6.75!
ReplyDeleteIt did take me a few minutes to get used to my chair, which was a hugely padded thing that threatened to swallow me up, reclining or not.
DeleteI rarely went to the movies even before, and would find myself possibly one of three or four people.
ReplyDeleteBut for years movies have been aimed at teenage boys, with noise and explosions, so I gave up looking for anything to watch. The last one I saw was Afternoons with Margueritte. It was lovely, and you might like it if it ever shows up again.
That sounds like something I would like. Next at this theater is the new version of Death on the Nile, which I’d like to see even if they did fiddle around with Christie’s original.
DeleteI haven't tried a movie theater since Delta hit. I would, if I could have one like you describe here!
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty fancy. And empty. I wonder how they stay solvent.
DeleteMy neighbor and I took in weekly movies before covid. The upgraded seating was new to me, and wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I haven’t been in years, even awhile before covid, I do remember that improved seating. I can assure you though, that the cost here is well beyond yours. It’s an expensive outing since we absolutely have to buy popcorn.
ReplyDeleteCinemas have decided they have to offer luxury to bring in the viewers. At least there it's a reasonable price -- movie tickets here are about £15! (Which is like $20.)
ReplyDeleteI think it was a lot less because I was there at 11:30 a.m.
