Conquering the Stockpile

My Monday horoscope:  ". . Don’t fall prey to needless spending.”                                 This, after the pre-Christmas orgy of shopping. Talk about closing the barn door.

I’m almost on the other side of the post-holiday food. Tonight, I’ll be transforming the leftover salmon into salmon cakes, so that won’t go to waste. I’ve already done my part to reduce the excess. Baklava for breakfast versus toast – no contest. And I’m sure a lunch of vegetable dip and carrots, followed by two cupcakes, covers all the major food groups. The teens knocked back an entire case of gingerale in a day and a half, and the adults finished off all the Starbucks coffee pods (which My Guy doesn’t like), not to mention the gigantic assortment of Costco cheese.

We’ll be leaving for Florida later than usual this year, so there’s a good chance I’ll clear the shelves a bit and find the back of the freezer before we go.

  1. Well done. We are still in leftover mode here. But enjoying it too.

  2. Those leftovers are a big reason for the cooking ahead. Amazing what works for breakfast after Christmas.

  3. There's a sense of satisfaction that comes from eating down leftovers, isn't there?

    1. Don't forget the illicit joy of usually forbidden foods.

  4. That baklava is making me want some! I'm pretty sure you missed the chocolate food group, otherwise that looks perfect. :-)

    1. Nope. The cupcake icing was chocolate. And then there's the candy left behind. . . .

  6. I didn't bother with Christmas foods this year, instead I am working on using up the stockpiles of stuff in the pantry. I was digging around in there recently and found ten packets of tomato paste sachets, four sachets to a pack, no one needs that many!

    1. For a while I had a ridiculous amount of mayonnaise- no idea why I bought some with each trip to the store.
