Rockets and Retail

With my Kohl’s 30% off coupon burning a hole in my purse, I set off yesterday afternoon for Connecticut. We only live about 20 minutes away, and that’s about the closest shopping venue, our own immediate area – in spite of having the first mall 50 years ago – being a shopping wasteland.

If you don’t have a Kohl’s department store in your area, you’re missing its combination of relentless advertising, coupons, and lures once they get you in the store. I had only gone in for greeting cards, and came out with birthday gifts, goodies for me (the dressing rooms were open!!), and yes, the cards. I also scored $20 worth of “Kohl’s Cash”, designed to reel me back in in a couple of weeks. Oh, and if I do return, a coupon for 20% off whatever I buy. Machiavellian.

I also needed a few things at the Costco down the street, but the first thing greeting me at the door had me wondering if Connecticut had just passed a new law, or had I always been oblivious that the state had a loosey-goosier attitude toward pyrotechnics than my own?

  1. You had a fun shopping spree with lots of savings. Well done. I wish I could buy sparklers for July 4 in California, but we can't buy them here. They are too dangerous yet lots of high powered fireworks are legal. Go figure.

  2. Not yet shopping in the stores although we are eating out more often. One thing COVID taught me is that I really need very little in the way of new clothes.

  3. That is quite a display. I've never understood state fireworks laws, and how they vary -- but that's because I don't give a hoot about fireworks.

  4. We don't have Kohl's here. For which I am grateful. From your description the other human resident would love it. As he does Costco. Which I find overwhelming and avoid.
No fireworks here, though himself tells me on one of his Costco visit they had coffins lined up just inside the front door.

  5. Ha! You sound like you got reeled in, happily. I don't usually shop At Kohl's around here, but there is one nearby at the local mall. Glad I don't receive goodies to entice me to shop there. :-)

  6. I have Kohls to the north, south, east, west of me. When I had live in grandchildren, we were there often. In fact, they put in in the shoe department, so I'd have a place to sit, and return with the "loot", which they would model for approval, except Hamilton, who assured me it was all good. He especially hated looking at the girls' bra selections.

  7. Fireworks! Must be July 4th soon....
We can't buy fireworks anywhere here, they are illegal, to keep us all safe from blowing up our faces and fingers I suppose.
