Waiting for the other shoe

"In July, the new Blogger interface will become the default for all users."

This ominous message has sat at the top of my details page like a bulbous toad for over a month. Once in a while I'll be reading someone's post and they'll make a reference to their difficulty in accomplishing what once had been an ordinary blog task, but is now maddeningly difficult, thanks to this new interface.
My technical skills are sketchy at best, and I can do what I need to do as long as I don't get fancy. I'm hoping to keep my head down and maybe this wonderful new system will blow by me, not noticing my humble little blog.
Has anyone encountered it yet and do you have any words of advice?

  1. I have trialled the new interface. It is slow, cumbersome but can be made to work. Fortunately blogger 'might' have been listening to complaints. At least one message now says that the 'legacy interface' will remain an option. I hope so. I really hope so. Mind you that message isn't consistent.
Posting photos is a bit of a challenge, as is applying labels.

    1. That's what I'm hoping for - the legacy interface. But so far I haven't seen anything allowing me to opt for it. I couldn't care less if the new interface makes it easy to use Blogger on mobile devices.

  2. I tried the new Blogger and had a terrible time posting photos, so I went back to the legacy version. But somehow having used it, I ended up having problems posting photos with the old one, too. I finally got everything straightened out, but I'm going to stay with the legacy version for as long as I can. :-)

  3. I'm like you, burying my head in the sand. I hope I don't have to change anything.

  4. It's been weird. I clicked on "try the new one" and the dashboard was new, but then the editor was the legacy version. It's behaving oddly. The two things I really hate are it makes you deal with unmoderated comments (mainly spam) before you can look at the good comments list. Each and every spam has to click delete and then confirm delete. Also, if you want to go back and edit an old post you can't jump ahead 100 at a time anymore, instead you very slowly load and scroll until you get there. It's just incredibly stupid. I'm not going until they make me.

  6. I have changed over to the new blogger and really haven't experienced any problems. Things are a little different, but not too daunting to figure out. Perhaps it has to do with the browser people are using. I discovered that browsers make a big difference when I had to start teaching online. The programme we were using would only work properly with certain browsers. Currently, I am using either Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. I always save my photos as downloads on my computer and then retrieve them from that when I want to put a photo in my blog. I've had no problems doing it that way. Don't know if that helps, but there you go. -Jenn

  7. It's different, so it looks hard, but once you learn where the links are for a new post and how to schedule ahead of time, it's not so bad. It does take longer though. I've yet to try adding a music clip from you tube as I used to do, if I have any spare time over the weekend I might try that.

  8. It's honestly NOT that hard for most things. It only gets tricky when you're trying to do something special (like, in my case, to use html to embed a video). And there seem to be workarounds for many potential issues, so I think it's just a matter of adapting. We'll all be fine.

  9. can you change it back, Marty? It may be too late, though. I switched back to the old way about two weeks ago and it was like finding an old friend. They ask why you want to switch back, so I told them. Too much scrolling, and it's hard to find what you want without clicking clicking clicking.

If it ain't broke, leave it alone. I do wish decent interface sites would stop trying to make it better.

Years ago Google did that, they added a mandatory "google search" so that as you typed, it followed along with suggestions, like someone trying to finish your sentence for you. 20K complaints later...I think they got the message, it's in there, but you have to ask for it.
