That’ll teach me not to watch my
blog statistics to see how many have come to visit.
This morning I
clicked into my stats, noticed that the Traffic Sources section showed that in
one day 39 people had been routed to my blog by way of a particular address.
Thinking perhaps it was a popular blog I’d missed, I clicked on the address.
It must have
been a porn site of some kind – I don’t know because one glimpse of a page chock full
of naked women had me clicking away immediately for fear I’d now somehow opened
a portal that couldn’t be closed.
Not sure what
this means, but I find it difficult – and disturbing - to think that the same
people who visit that site regularly visit mine.
I imagine some people were very disappointed to land on your site. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL. I certainly hope so!
DeleteI did a post on sex once and illustrated it with a photo of a Hindu statue in the act. my stats exploded. mostly from muslim nations and for a long time. one reader who would visit while at work found access was blocked for a short time.
ReplyDeleteso, curious, I checked my stats. I got the same thing! referring site full of naked women pictures.
ReplyDeleteThose same people have been visiting me. And like you, I clicked on the address and closed it very quickly. I do wonder what they get out of your site and mine though.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand it, so I quit even thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteWell, that does it. I'm NOT going to find that address and click on it. Who knows how that awful site is linked to so many of my favorite people??
ReplyDeleteSame with me. I clicked on it and then wondered how on earth porn sites ended up being connected with my blog. Then I was sad because it meant that probably I don't have the same amount of real people looking at my blog as I first thought! I'm actually glad you posted about this, so now I know I'm not the only one! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteThat would certainly upset me to find someone using my blog.
ReplyDeleteI liked Anvilcloud's comment best of all!, :0)
ReplyDeleteThat would disturb me too, makes me glad I don't check my stats.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I get those all the time. Best thing to do is be aware of the URL and not click on it. It can be pretty startling before you've your first coffee...
ReplyDeleteOne way to identify the site(s), take the URL to Google and type it in. Without compromising your site, you can usually find out if the person or website is anything you want to look at.
If you want, you can always complain to Blogger, but I don't see that it makes any difference.
These are what I think of as piggyback visits. They are computer generated, and they're just looking for people to answer them back. Like the Russian Brides spam we get, or the 875 hits from the Ukraine or Greece. anything like that will slowly work its way out of your site, in about a week. For the most part, just ignore them.
Who knew:(
ReplyDeleteLast time I had a serious problem it was because of another site with a fairly close title to mine: he was generating 100s of hits a day, and I finally asked him if we could do something about that.
ReplyDeleteHe was nice enough to email me back, apologizing, and changed one word in his URL. All the difference in the world.
I don't recommend doing that with the porn dollies though. They aren't viruses, just spam. As I said, if you're really curious, copy and paste their URL into google and see what you find. No blame no shame. Just don't do it when the kids are around, lol.
How weird! Ah yes, the Wild West of the Internet...
