Autumn in Massachusetts
Yesterday found me in the woods, hiking through
a town nature preserve that had once been a
flourishing orchard, but may one day be
overtaken by the forest that surrounds it.
It's a steady climb
over rivers of
rocks.
The rewards though, are many.
Unexpected bursts of color.
Patches of bittersweet.
Other things to keep
you alert.
Strange sights.
Fallen giants
Small beauties.
Tall beauties.
And after climbing, climbing, the reward
is complete.

What a stunning place to hike, I can only wish that we had such trails here.

Yes, our town is just a small bedroom community but our town fathers were wise enough to protect our surrounding woods.
DeleteBeautiful place to hike - in WI, I'm always thinking a bear might pop out from behind a tree. I know, very unlikely, but I often find myself taking urban walks, vs. countryside.
ReplyDeleteWell, I have to admit there have been rumors of the occasional bear in them thar woods, but the friend that I hike with and I are such marathon talkers that we probably scare any wildlife away.
DeleteI love the way you pieced this together! Gorgeous photos.
