Okay. Yes, it’s been way too long since I’ve logged
in. I wish I could say life has been so jam-packed with exciting events that I
haven’t found the time but – nope.
Last week was typical of the routine
of my days:
Monday – Exercise class for oldies.
But before you start feeling superior, you try holding weights to your
chest and getting up and down out of chair 15 times. Twice.
Tuesday – Golf in the morning (I’m
beginning to hate golf) with friends and Mahjong with other friends in the
afternoon. (What’s not to like? A challenging game, conversation, and wine.)
Wednesday – Beginner’s pickleball in
the morning (I’m not a beginner, but these people are super-nice.) Lunch out
with a friend.
Thursday – More golf -this time it’s
with a league, so random people each time.
(Did I
mention I’m growing to hate golf? My game – never all that great – is just
getting worse and worse.) Then Mahjong
at the Senior Center. Fun ladies. Fun time. (Sadly, no wine.)
Friday – Gentle Yoga at the YMCA,
which I love in spite of my creaky knees.
This will continue, with a few
changes. For instance, tomorrow I’m playing big-girl pickleball with a friend.
This will be at the town’s new and lovely outdoor courts and the weather will
be in the low 70s. And no golf! Yay!
Except these courts are used by a range of players, many of
them hard-slamming men who bring large egos and possibly failed personal
histories of organized sports. Pick- up games can be a little nerve-wracking
for those of us in the low strata of the intermediate players. Fortunately, my
friend is fearless enough that her courage pushes me into the breach and with
any luck we’ll find some kindred souls while dodging those who are chasing their
Olympic dream.
