Crossing Guard

I’m thinking someone needs to send out a memo to a few of my neighbors that they might want to keep a lower profile for the next couple of weeks.

I pulled into our complex today, my car filled to the gills with groceries, but had to slow way down.

One benefit of being retired, I slowed to a full stop. I was in no hurry and this individual looked like he/she needed to think for a minute. We both sat for at bit, and then a little progress was made.

The two of us sat a bit longer and then I saw why.

This was either the scout or the most expendable of the group while everyone else waited in the woods to see if it was safe.

But hold on -

There were more waiting for me when I pulled into the driveway.

Anyone with meleagrisphobia had better not move here.

  1. I had to look up the word to be sure I wasn't looking at peacocks. Lots of them, probably looking for a safe place to hang out for a few weeks, eh?

  2. I too had to look up that word - though my guess was correct. Perhaps the sentry IS the most expendable - though I hope no-one told him/her that.

  3. I've always wondered if turkeys were the dumbest birds on the block, or the smartest.

  5. That word isn't in my dictionary, so I'm guessing turkeys, because they look just like the birds you usually show.

  6. "Meleagrisphobia" -- now THAT's the word of the day! And perfect for the Thanksgiving season. :)

  7. A fun post for the month of Thanksgiving! Sometimes Nature must teach us patience.

  8. Look at all the turkeys! and as my husband says, come turkey season and there won't be a turkey anywhere. Isn't it nice to be retired. Sometimes I have to stop and tell myself it's ok to slow down. Thank you for visiting.
