What a difference a week makes

This time last week we were gearing up for the first overnight visit here by the twins without parents. Okay, it didn’t really take me a week to recover enough to write a post, but things are definitely different around here than they were last weekend.

Parents arrived in the morning and unloaded tote bags and scooters, while trying to strike the right balance of greetings while getting the heck out of Dodge as quickly as possible so they could start their own adult overnight.

Now at the ripe old age of 6, there were no tears, just excitement at getting the entertainment started. After some lunch – which is a whole other issue since as far as I can tell, they only eat pasta, fruit, plain yogurt, and roasted broccoli – we saddled up and took off for the museum in the city.

          We found plenty to do.

The pendulum showing the earth’s rotation.

The display of a full-sized T Rex, full-sized African animals, and showcases that have probably been there since 1945 (thankfully re-furbished) of local fauna like bears and muskrats, and deer.

The Dr. Seuss museum had plenty of hands-on (he really did grow up here on Mulberry Street in Springfield).

Then back home for sticker fun, coloring, scooter riding, and play.

The two five-foot-long snakes that somehow left the museum gift shop with us watched from our loft.

And that was just day one.

Now I remember the benefit of having had my kids in my twenties.

  1. How sweet! Energy consuming, for sure, but sweet!

  2. Totally exhausting. For an excellent cause.

  3. So it was a fun and successful visit. I second the kids in your twenties observation.

  4. Having kids in your twenties is definitely a benefit, I did the same. You had a great day with them and I love the snakes that "followed" you home.
