Not our complex, but closer to town |
Getting information when there are 213,000 power outages in Sarasota County alone is difficult, but our little town in Florida appears to have dodged a cannonball.
That in spite of the fact that the eye of Milton passed right across neighboring Sarasota. Instead of a 9 to 15 storm surge, reports are that the highest was 5 feet on a beach at the edge of town.
There was damage in the
downtown area, but that was from wind.
In our own area a couple of miles away we were most worried
about the surge and possible damage from rising water, but I don’t believe any
flooding happened in our immediate area. We’ll find out more when our condo
neighbors who live there year round are able to report in.
At one point we strayed into immigration, and more implausibly, federal
funds for hurricane relief. I managed to keep my big trap shut when the bugaboo-half-truth
of $750 disaster relief (only the beginning of possible funding) came up.
Honestly, people. Try reading a newspaper once in a while or
at least watch more than one TV channel – you know, the kind that provides news
and hasn’t been ordered to pay a $787.5 million settlement for lying.
I am so glad that you dodged that bullet.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes to your final sentence. A big YES.
I agree with what Elpehpant's Child said, and hope also that the rest of Florida didn't get hit as hard as they were expecting.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you seem minimally affected.
ReplyDeleteIt's great news that Venice (at least in your area) appears to have minimal damage. I don't blame you for not speaking up to resist the "fake news" -- some people will never be convinced.
ReplyDeleteIt's just exhausting.
