Leaving the YMCA today (my water aerobics was class back to
normal, thank heaven), I stopped my car for one of the many walkers who hoof it
around the complex.
This was a markedly portly gentleman, out in his shorts and sneakers, reaping the rewards of sunshine and weight-bearing exercise. Unfortunately, the benefits were most likely outweighed by the gigantic stogie in his mouth.

On a related
note, on my way to Home Depot to buy boxes, I passed a Vape shop whose owner
may not be too familiar with the concept of irony. Prominently displayed in
front was the proud banner, “Principle Over Profit.”
So today’s
downsizing errands included purchasing 4 packing boxes at Home Despot (75 cents
each), charming 2 egg packing boxes out of the egg man at the grocery store,
and shamelessly begging 3 boxes from a stock clerk at the dollar store.
I followed
that up with a trip to Staples for bubble wrap where I discovered to my horror
that the roll I needed was $18. In the ‘80s it was enough of an adjustment for
me when we all were suddenly paying for bottled water – I couldn’t bring myself
to spend money on what was essentially air that I’d later throw
away.
I’m going to start amassing newspaper like a hoarder on speed.

You are wise to recycle your buffering for your move. It will be much easier to dispose of as well.
ReplyDeleteI cannot bear to buy bottled water.
ReplyDeleteMe either - not only because of all those plastic bottles in land fills, but because we have excellent well water.
DeleteWe have a LOT of bubblewrap. Since discovering you had to pay for it, my partner squirrels away any piece which comes into the house. Ditto bozes. Ironic really, since all my down-sizing/declutering attempts are foiled by the same individual.
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
$18 for bubble wrap? That seems like an awful lot. Plenty of newspaper will do the job just as well, and wrap delicate things like framed photos with a folded teatowel over the glass for added protection.
ReplyDeleteMy use of bubble wrap is limited to those Amazon packages that contain it. I only like to pop those things and didn't realize how expense they are! :-)
ReplyDeleteI also save bubblewrap though I have bought some. I buy it at the box store, much cheaper than at Staples and I can take them all the peanuts that accumulate and they will reuse them.
ReplyDeleteOK, that is an INSANE price for bubble wrap!! What the heck?!
ReplyDeleteWell, it was a really really BIG roll. . .
