Anyone with any sense will be
outside today.
This is a clear example of ‘live for today’; it will be cooler tomorrow, but our area is scheduled to reach 70 degrees today.

It’s
impossible to keep thoughts of spring out of our heads. Granted, Halloween
costumes do hit the stores in September, and everything’s festooned with
Christmas a week before Thanksgiving, but on my way to sensible walking shoes
yesterday it gladdened my heart to pass aisle after aisle of sandals.
And
the two squirrels that were, shall we say, wrestling on our deck this
morning will be welcoming a new family in 45 days according to Professor
Google.
When
I was in the pool this week at the Y, one of the ladies was remarking on the
early arrival of Easter this year. This brought forth a discussion of the
merits of a good ham dinner or maybe spring lamb. Mary, a sweet Catholic lady
who is a long-time member of her church choir, asked what my family was doing for
Easter. “Nothing,” I said, and went on to explain that my daughter’s husband is
Jewish, and her three boys were being raised in that faith. Added to that, my
son is engaged to a lovely Jewish girl.
A
moment passed while she thought about this, and then looking a bit worried, she
said, “So they won’t be celebrating it at all?”
You reminded me of a time a few years ago when three squirrels were "wrestling" in the tree outside my front porch. I wondered, after watching for awhile, about their genders. Never figured it out. And I did have to smile at Mary's questioning. Your post makes me reflect on people's assumptions. :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, I watched for some time. Not as a voyeur, I hasten to add, but because I couldn't figure out who was who, and then I started wondering how they managed with those long tails to, well . . . .
DeleteSigh. On this side of the world it is still summer. Despite what our calendars say. Not only summer but a HOT summer.
ReplyDelete70 degrees sounds pretty good to me. I don't think we are getting down that low overnight.
Reached high 70/s today and up to 80 tomorrow and than back down to spring temperatures and rain. It is difficult when we have different traditions. But Easter is an important holiday for some of my friends.
ReplyDeleteIn one of my first jobs I looked through the floor to ceiling windows in my boss's office and said, "Oh, look at those two birds fighting."
ReplyDeleteHe looked. He paused. "I don't think they're fighting."
Is she concerned they won't be celebrating Jesus or that they'll be missing out on chocolate eggs?
ReplyDeleteOr do Jewish children still get chocolate eggs anyway?
Never thought that I'd be giving a theology lesson while doing jumping jacks in a pool.
DeleteLOL -- I'm sure it seems quite unbelievable to her that someone wouldn't celebrate Easter. We won't be doing much around here, either.
