Beach life

Florida can be a dangerous place. And it's not just the alligators and potential skin cancer.

Our first night here I ordered a Margarita and received two. Today at lunch my Mojito was half price.  (No judgements, please. I'm on vacation.). As far as I can tell, happy hour in Florida begins at 10 am and ends . . .well, I'm not sure when it ends.

The accommodations we found on line were just what we'd hoped for.  It really does have a heated pool, as advertised, the little condo is comfortable and clean, and the place is indeed right on the beach.  One worry - no beach chairs. But then we managed to borrow some from the office. All set.

We enjoyed some walks on the beach the first couple of days and then after my morning swim in the pool I looked up to beeps and hard hats beyond the fence.

It seems they refurbish the beach every ten years or so.
Looks like we didn't need to worry about beach chairs.

    1. Fascinating. I sent pictures to the grandboys -they could probably watch those big machines for hours.

    2. What's the difference between that and snowplows? Just trading one for the other!

  2. Good grief; you need the local jurisdiction's reclamation schedule before you book.

  4. Oh, no! I hope it doesn't take them long to finish or you will be needing those extra free drinks.

  5. Oh no! I hope this "refurbishing" isn't being completed for the rest of your trip. Maybe you could get a discounted rate for the rest of your trip?

  6. Refurbish the beach? What exactly does that mean? What are they doing there? Turning the sand like it was compost? Digging up and removing the bodies before the tides expose them? Mining for Pirate treasure?

  7. There are huge ships just visible from shore that are dredging up sand and sending it via big pixies back to workers on the beach.

  8. How wonderful that you're in warm sunny Florida, even with the bulldozers! I knew something had been missing from my life. You had four posts that I had not read. I laughed out loud about the little red head staring at those seated behind her, and your description of people walking past cracks me up! Hope you enjoy every minute of vacation!

  9. Nothing worse than back up beeps to ruin a vacation, perhaps the work will be over soon:)

  10. Wow, that's a bummer! Maybe y'all can drive to a different beach, but it does put a damper on staying where you are at. I hope they move along quickly.

  11. They used to scrape the beaches clean of the sargasso seaweed that washes up every summer on the beaches on our coast (because it literally covers the beach and stinks) until they (finally) realized that the seaweed was necessary for the health of the beach and dunes (helps hold the sand in place).
