Even with my
almost-nonexistent math skills, I believe if someone could tell me exactly how
many individual leaves I’ve raked, blown, and toted this fall I’d finally
understand the meaning of one million.

Ain’t English Great –
If the definition of
oversight is an unintentional failure to see or do something, why would
you form a committee with that name?
If, for instance,
their purpose is the oversight of a company’s actions, wouldn’t they just be a
bunch of people who collectively miss the point?

Even
in my youthful forties I had my flaky moments. Getting up at 5 a.m. might have been a factor, but I recall
occasionally sitting at my desk in my classroom and realizing that without
looking down, I had absolutely no idea what clothes I’d put on that morning.
And
while we’re on the subject, I’ve decided I could use a clothes assistant, and
no, not someone to remind me how to button my shirt.
I
was going somewhere the other day and so put on a new blazer of some pretty
snazzy material I’d fallen in love with.
At the end of the
day I realized that my experience of wearing it had fallen a bit flat. The
reason this jacket had called to me was its wonderful fabric, but I’d spent the
day inside it and so was unable to really see it.
The
logical solution is someone to walk beside me, wearing that favorite jacket so
that I can get full enjoyment out of its snazziness.
Unique perspectives on a number of good points.
ReplyDeleteNot too many of those beautiful leaves left on the trees over here...we've gotten up close and personal with most of them lol.
ReplyDeleteA tall friend breezed into a gathering lately. She can wear the most lovely, floaty pieces. We did have to point out the beautiful calf length vest was inside out.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy raking leaves. I don't like it when the wind scatters them and blows all the leaves from my block into my yard.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the clothes. Never thought about it that way. You being inside and not really seeing it! :) And, the leaves. Doesn't it just fly all over you to see one falling from a tree and landing on a spot you just raked!
ReplyDeleteI never thought of the Oversight Committee as being obviously a waste of time before. That's great. And you're right about not being able to enjoy one's favorite jacket while wearing it! Never thought of that before. Guess you could give it away, huh? Fun post. :-)
ReplyDeleteBut you got to FEEL the fabric, which surely counts for something. :)
