I’m not too sure where the last two weeks went.
Much of it was spent settling our snowbird
feathers here into our Florida nest.
The trip down didn’t begin too
auspiciously. It had snowed lightly the day before we began our drive and we
congratulated ourselves on our cleverness at leaving after it was over. But the
results were still on the roads, as we soon learned.
We were fine until we hit the
slush-filled highway. The first truck that passed sprayed the windshield. Fine –
no prob. I activated the wipers, but they were still smeared. I turned on the
windshield washer – nothing.
Ultimately, we had to pull off the highway
four times, climb out, rub snow over the windshield to see where we were going.
Thankfully, the sun got higher and the roads dried out, or else we’d still be
driving, stopping, driving, stopping.
For a while we had deeply unkind
thoughts about the Honda engineers who thought it’d be a keen idea to channel
the wiper fluid through the wipers themselves – where it would freeze. But then
we wondered if the Florida dealer where we’d leased the car last year might
have put a weaker fluid with less anti-freeze in it.
Anyway, nesting.

| Epic rust stain from old fridge's leaks |
We
arrived on Saturday, and on Sunday I was in the store ordering one to be
delivered the next day. One that didn’t fit on Monday. Back to the store. Wait
two more days.
I now have what I
swore I’d never buy – freezer on one side, fridge on the other. The veggie bins
are at my ankles, and the interior is narrow and cavernous. But that’s what fit and
was available. Several days with no fridge taught me a lesson in priorities.
No, we haven’t been to the beach. No, we haven’t had dinner by the water.
But we’ve re-arranged the living room, bought a new chair for my
writing corner, and scheduled grab bars for the shower. Woo Hoo! Life in the
fast lane.
Oh, and it was 39 degrees today when I woke up.

Enjoy the warmth!
