Susans and Tom

It seems like every year I’m newly pleased by my garden, as though nothing had ever bloomed there before.

In May, there’s the excitement of things sprouting, the ever-dependable hosta popping up, the bleeding heart in the back garden starting to show. In June the roses are going full tilt - being of the Knock Out shrub variety, they’ll bloom until October and then some. By July, the astilbe and the daisies do their thing, but the real show I’m always waiting for is the black-eyed Susans.

And it looks like we have another fan of our garden.

The three amigos have now gained a fourth in their daily pilgrimages through our back yard.

We looked out from the porch one day and saw this new addition staring into my
flowers, as though mesmerized, for at least ten minutes without moving.

Though I did see it the next day, standing in my neighbor Carol’s garden (where it’s all bushes and no flowers) doing the same thing.

My conclusion is that it spotted its twin in the glass of our basement windows.

(Or perhaps we have an actual Peeping Tom.)
