Wake Up Call

This morning I scanned yesterday’s online local headlines,

“Elderly Connecticut woman punched in head while exercising”

My thoughts:

Punched in the head? Awful!

Wonder if she was in the gym.

Continuing to read:

“. . the woman was exercising at about 10 in the morning on Old County Road when a stranger ran up behind and punched her in the head. Nothing was stolen.”

More thoughts:

          Huh. People be crazy.

But good for her – outside exercising at her age, her being elderly and all.

Continuing to read:

“. . a man was found by Connecticut State Police troopers nearby and is facing charges of first-degree assault on an elderly person since the woman was 70.”

                   70?

                Elderly?

  1. That's middle aged! If she'd been elderly she'd have decked him, take that, young man!

  2. Yeah, I know. I see it reported as someone being elderly, and I nod my head. Then, I say, "Hey, wait a minute here!"

  3. Sigh. Our local paper had a story on an 'elderly' woman's exercise program yesterday. I was impressed. She is 78 and plans on running in a local fun run - and expects to cover 10 kilometres in less than an hour. I am younger than she is and could not do it. And would be proud to walk that distance.

    1. Sigh indeed. Those super-achievers give good old lethargy a bad name.

  6. When I was five I thought 70 was elderly, but now that I am 70 It isn't. 90 is elderly.

    1. When I was eleven, I couldn't figure out why my uncle bothered to get married at 35. I mean how much time could he have left, anyway?

  7. Old age is always five years older than you, isn't that right? I don't think 70 is elderly either. I remember when I was that age. :-)
