Hoover Horror

Sorry – I didn’t mean to drop off the edge of the blog world. My absence is due more to mundanity and inertia than a madcap social life.

Life has been pretty slow around here – laundry, yard work, cleaning out the basement.
To illustrate my lack of material, here’s Mamie trying to climb up my leg after My Guy tested the battery on the smoke alarm today.

Five minutes later she was still shaking, so I vested her up and took her for a turn around the yard to distract her.

Back in the house, fraidy-cat tiny dog restored to semi-normalcy (which amounts to her following me relentlessly through the house in case I might suddenly leave her) and it was time for me to get on with housework.

It probably doesn’t speak well for my housekeeping work ethic that vacuuming is such an unfamiliar and terrifying event for Mamie.

Large objects – like vacuums – are immediately suspect.

Large objects that roar are fiends of the devil.

Any other dog would have had the sense to run and hide, but since Mamie is constitutionally unable to let me out of her sight, she alternated between ducking around corners and peeking her head out to see if the Large Object had eaten me yet.

Sanctuary in My Guy's lap.

  1. The suck monster does much the same to our cat. And he too peeks around the corner to be sure that I haven't disappeared. And cries.

  2. Angel used to play with the vacuum nozzle in the beginning, chasing it and so on, but now when he sees me drag it out he runs and hides behind the front door.

    1. Yes, the vacuum doesn't make an appearance around here very often..

  4. Poor Mamie. I can understand why such a little critter would be afraid of those loud machines. Adorable pictures, though! :-)

    1. Mamie is many things - sweet, cuddly, loyal - but not brave.

  5. Olga feels the same way about any large objects that move. She's gotten used to the vacuum, though!

  6. Our border collie tries to eat the vacuum so someone has to take her for a walk while I vacuum. She also tries to eat my bike tires if I don't get through the gate fast enough. Also the wheelbarrow and the broom. It does give me an excuse not to clean however.

    1. I think our dogs love housework as much as we do.
