Color our world

I may be unusually focused on color lately, having scored the perfect shoes for an upcoming major event at a local shoe warehouse.

I mean, really – great or what?  ->

I was at the gym early this morning, plodding away virtuously on the treadmill – and high time, too. Life lately has taken on a dangerous pattern of couches and chocolate.

Before me was the array of four televisions, each on a different channel. At that time of day the first is the Today show, the second the Fox channel, third New England Sports Channel, and the last, some other sports channel too far away for me to see, which works out just fine.

During one of the many, many ads on the Today show, a commercial caught my attention. Two women were walking photogenically along - one in a red dress, the other in royal blue. This set me off musing if there was a manufacturer who perhaps specialized in political dresses.

Just as I’ll bet you’ll never catch Ted Cruz in a blue tie, there are also expectations for the ladies. A woman candidate (or beaming wife of the candidate) stands proudly at the podium, wearing the color of her party – blue for Democrat, red for Republican. In my experience, finding a simple dress in a solid primary color is no small achievement. I’ve often thought that the women anchors on Fox must have entire closets of every shade of red imaginable.Where do they find them?

Then the commercial ended, and there before me were two of the women anchors for the Today show, one in a crimson dress, the other in rose. I swung my eyes over to the Fox tv – their female anchor was in baby blue.

Have I uncovered a seismic shift in political alignment brewing in the broadcast world?

  1. The shoes are gorgeous. Would that I could put on a real shoe these days.

    1. The goal was to find an inexpensive shoe that would jazz up a plain black dress - and still be able to walk in them.
Put me in a heel higher than an inch and you also have to give me a handicapped sticker because I will be.

  2. I have seen Hillary in red at least twice...she must not have gotten the memo.

  3. Now I won't be able to watch the dreaded political coverages with out looking at the color they are wearing. At least that will be more interesting than listening.

  4. Interesting, Michelle Obama wore purple the night of Obama's nomination at the convention. Nancy Reagan invented red. She did red in everything, even the White House china. I think of Hillary as blue I suppose but I've been distracted this season with the new style of her pant suits, longer jackets. I remember cringing for Jill Biden as she came down some steps during the inauguration with her skinny little knobby knees showing between the tops of her boots and her hem line. Not a good look. Laura Bush seems a little colorless in my mind. Barbara Bush has her trademark pearls. First ladies do wear a lot of red and blue it is true.

  6. One of our politicians made a practice of only wearing blue ties. I would really prefer it if colours weren't given a political link.
Those shoes are jazzy - and probably still too high for me. Flats only zone these days.

  7. really? People choose clothing colour to reflect their political sides? Does this mean they never wear any other colour?

    Your shoes are pretty.

  11. Sexy shoes score! I can't wear open toed shoes, it always ends badly. Give me a pair of closed toe stilettos any day.
