Today, in a pre-emptive strike against future insurance claims, we will begin receiving visits by a team of inspectors who will troop through all 132 units in our complex to catalogue the state of our windows.
The jumpiness of our new insurance
company (as opposed to the insurance we individually have on the contents of
our places) is understandable, given Florida’s recent history. Two massive
hurricanes this fall in as many weeks would make anyone jittery. In the past, our city
here on the west coast has dodged storm after storm, and even the destruction
of this autumn’s Helene and Milton was negligible compared to other cities
further along the coast, and our little condo complex rode the storms with
barely a scratch.
Still, the men with clipboards are a-comin’ and My Guy and I have been leaping out of bed and tidying since we don’t know what time they’re coming.
They were a-comin’ yesterday, until
someone realized that it was a national holiday and sent out a
breathless email blast saying the inspection was moved to today. This after almost daily
communications for two weeks spelling out which buildings would be inspected on
which days.
But to be fair, their confusion is understandable – I mean, MLK
day has only been in effect across the nation since the year 2000, and inauguration day has only been established as January 20 since 1933.
I hope the inspection goes well.
ReplyDeleteI do hope they find all buildings are sound and sturdy still.
ReplyDeleteNobody seemed to pay any attention to MLK yesterday, considering the barrage of nasty news told about You Know Who.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes.
