Welcome to the infirmary

No more trips for Mamie and me up to the mailbox, or anywhere else for that matter in the near future. This is now a house of rehabilitation and pre-dental care.

Mamie’s now home with neck gear reminiscent of the glory days of SNL. Her surgery went well (aside from an unfortunate tendency of the staff at the vet's to call her Mammy), but there are several days of recovery ahead of us, so no more power walks through the center of town, and at least for today not even a gentle stroll around the back yard.

And even though her only current interest is snoozing in her bed, every time I leave the room she staggers up, bumping unhappily into furniture with her head gear, trying to find me. So no golf or much else fun for me this week; I’m in for the next couple of days. Even zipping out to run an errand or two may be problematic since when she can’t find me, the barking and howling commence.  When she’s more on the mend we’ll need to start up a full-throttle anti-separation anxiety campaign.

My other focus is on meals of all things soft. My guy has a tooth teetering on the brink – he lost a filling a day ago, but managed to get a quick dental appointment. There he was told the tooth was cracked beyond repair and had to come out so he’s booked with an oral surgeon for Thursday, after which I’ll have another post-op. We're hoping to make it through the next 24 hours with the remaining bits intact and the nerve quiet.

Monday night: homemade chicken noodle soup

Tuesday: Coq au Vin and mashed potatoes

          Tonight :  Gruel?
Hopefully my newest patient won’t arrive home wearing a giant cone.

  1. OK, I was going to make that same cone joke. It's such a drag to have a problem tooth. I hope the situation gets resolved without too much misery! (Same for Mamie.)

  2. When it rains it pours. At least everyone is on the passive page, but you will be carrying the load for a while it seems.

  3. Love your sense of humor. Mamie doesn't know how lucky she is to have landed in your dog bed. Give her another week and you'll be checking in with her to see what your schedule for the day is going to be.

  4. Soft diets are much easier to prepare so caring for those two will hopefully go smoothly.

  5. Here's hoping both members of the family recover quickly.

  6. Sigh.
I hope both invalids are soon on the mend - and that you can get some time to yourself.

  7. Goodness you are getting to be quite the care taker. Hang in, these will all pass.

  8. You need to stay well for at least a week until everyone else recuperates. Actually - just stay well.

    1. Don't need to do much for the dog except wait for the sutures to heal, and I doubt if My Guy will require much care either.
I suspect that for both of them all I need to do is be nearby. I wonder if they know how alike they are! :0)

  9. Aw, poor Mamie and poor hubby. Maybe they can cuddle up together and bond. Hope they both recover quickly and you can have a day off!

  10. I hope Mamie feels much better really soon. I love how she has bonded with you, but I can see how the separation anxiety will be a problem.
Sorry to hear about hubby's tooth too, I remember cracking a tooth badly and having it pulled the very same day. What a relief that was.

  11. Gosh, it's a tough time for your family. It's good you are such a fine caretaker. Don't forget to take care of yourself, too, caretaker. :-)

  12. I've had plenty of cracked teeth due to an accident when I was a teen but never bad enough to have to have it pulled. I have a loose tooth that's been loose for years but only occasionally does it bother me.
