Dinosaurs and Soup Bones

We’ve put another turkey under our belts, caught up on family news, and again have a renewed interest in leafy greens and a non-carb diet.

There was a mother-daughter day of shopping, where we experienced an odd version of salesmanship when an employee spotted us grimacing at the smell of one of the candles. She bustled over and took us through a tour of some of the candles she thought were even stinkier. Such honesty was refreshing as this season of uber-shopping begins.

There was a whole-family pilgrimage to the museum, where Horton braved the cold -

and the dinosaur – like the tropical creature he is – was dressed for the weather.

Other residents were there to greet us as well.

alive. . .

and thankfully,
not-so alive.

Now reminders from Thanksgiving fill the mind with memories, the idle hours with activity, and the belly with good hot soup.
The snowman that was.

The laundry that is.

The turkey bone soup that makes it all worthwhile.

  2. Another good Thanksgiving, in the books. I wonder how many of us are off the turkey wagon. Our family put the cards on the table a few years back--who really doesn't like turkey, leftovers, and especially turkey soup. It was unanimous, and turkeys are not only safe from the White House, they are safe from us.

  3. I made turkey hash in memory of my mother, but I remember she did the same thing, she cooked that carcass and then took out all the bones... it was the best soup (or turkey hash, as she called it) that I ever tasted. I'll bet yours is good, too! :-)

  7. The laundry that is! I can identify with THAT one. We're at our muddiest time of year around here!

  8. I don't like turkey, but I do the soup thing with every chicken carcass, sometimes even buying just a couple of chicken carcasses from the poultry shop for extra flavour.

  11. Renewed interest in leafy greens and a non-carb diet! Isn't that the truth! You make me smile. And just wait til the first of the year gets here. Soup sounds really good right now.

  12. Great blog entry! Loved reliving the moments, but sorry for the visit residue... laundry (does it ever end... no!), and missing that delicious turkey noodle soup.
